The cross-section of the wing in the plane of symmetry is called the root profile, and its chord is called the root bc. At the ends of the wing, respectively, the end profile and end chord bc. The distance from one end profile to the other is called the wing span l. The chord of a wing profile can be different along its span. The ratio of the root chord to the end chord is called the wing taper n. The ratio of the wing area to its span is called the average geometric chord bcp, and the ratio of the wing span to bcp is called the wing extension L.
If during the flight the wingtips are deviated from the root section, the wing is said to be arrow-shaped. Fig. 1 shows B - leading edge sweep - the angle between the perpendicular to the plane of symmetry and the leading edge of the wing. It is also legitimate to talk about the trailing edge camber, but the most important thing is the camber along the line of focus, i.e. the line connecting the focuses of the wing profiles along its span. It is obvious that at zero arrowing along the line of focuses of a wing with non-zero taper, the edges are not perpendicular to the plane of symmetry of the wing. Nevertheless, it is considered to be a straight wing, not a sweeping wing.
If the ends of the wing are deflected backward relative to the root section, it is said to have positive arrowhead, and if forward, it is said to have negative arrowhead. If the wing is formed by straight leading and trailing edges in plan view, the sweep does not change along the span. If this is not the case, then the sweep can change its value and even its sign.
